City of Del Mar

Beacon Participant Profile

The City of Del Mar recognizes that our current way of life is changing our community, the region, the state, the country, and the world as we face rising temperatures, sea level rise, more extreme weather, and a less healthy environment.

On June 6, 2016 the Del Mar City Council adopted a Climate Action Plan (CAP), which sets targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 and 2035. The CAP’s goal for 2035 is to reduce GHG generation to at least 50 percent below Del Mar’s baseline 2012 values, and to continue further reductions to meet the state goal of 80 percent reduction below statewide 1990 values by 2050.

The CAP has a series of recommendations, strategies, and measures in the areas of energy and buildings, water and waste, transportation, and urban tree planting to achieve the City’s GHG emissions reduction targets. One of the most significant strategies identified in the CAP to help the City in reaching its GHG emissions goals is achieving a 50% renewable energy supply by 2020 and a 100% renewable energy supply by 2035.
