There are several alternative options for satisfying California’s ethics education requirements. Below are some of these alternatives.

AB 1234 Self-Study
Online Test Available

The Institute offers two, one-hour self-study exercises as an option for local officials to satisfy AB 1234 requirements. The self-study materials can also be used to make up for time missed at in-person sessions if the official either arrived late or left early.

AB 1234 Advanced Credit
Commitment to Nonprofit Causes and Public Service

The Institute for Local Government is offering advanced AB 1234 ethics self-study credit to those officials who have already covered the basic materials required by AB 1234.

AB 1234 Ethics Training for Local Officials Through the Fair Political Practices Commission
Online Test Available

The FPPC has created an online training program available on a cost free basis that can be found by following this link.

By accessing this link you will be leaving the ILG website. Keep in mind the free online training offered is a self-serve training program through the FPPC. All inquiries regarding the free online test will need to be directed to the FPPC through the email contact at the start of the test.
